New 2000 Carver 530 Owner

Postby 77lundvall » October 25th, 2025, 6:07 pm

Me and a friend just bought a 2000 Carver 530 on an auction website.

The previous owner ran the engines while in the middle of replacing the water pumps for the engines, which damaged some exhaust components and pretty much all of the wiring in the engine room.

We are in deperate need of two "Elb:exhst rubr 6" 90deg" PN: 5162502.. wondering if there is an OEM part number for that or Carver exclusive.

..also need one "Pipe:frp 6x31"" PN: A0018184 and possibly a new port side muffler (if this one can't be repaired)

Yesterday, the day after the paperwork went through for the sale, we were served with a notice of violation from the harbor department marked "final warning" giving us until Monday to get the engines running.

Fines start at $100 the first day(Tuesday), then go $200, $600, $1000, $2000, and cap out at $3000/day the sixth day(Sunday Nov 2nd), so we're in a pretty big hurry to get things moving.

Vessel is located in Newport Beach. I'm currently in Seattle until Tuesday then driving down.

Vessel was also looted of anchor, chain, fenders, dinghy, batteries, and they drained the diesel tank.

We are in disagreement on which size chain to buy, I think it's 3/8" for this windless.. he thinks it's 5/16"

Welcome aboard Eric, and congrats on your new purchase. I see it comes with a lot of pressure to get her up and running.

It would help if you posted engine information...Cummins, Volvo, model, serial #?

Did you check for a manufacturer's label on the muffler? Carver dealt with Centek a lot for their mufflers but it may be custom build for Carver rather than one of their off-the-shelf products. If it's a Carver design, they'll still have the specs and can build one but it'll be costly and usually takes a few weeks. Also check with Centek re the other exhaust parts you're looking for, you never know. They may also be able to steer you in the right direction if it wasn't them that supplied some of the exhaust components. They should be able to tell by using the Carver part numbers you have.... https://centekmarine.com/

I want to say it's a Vetus-Mawell VWC windlass but I can't tell which model it is. That info should be on the motor below deck. You can find all the Maxwell manuals on their site. The spec for the chain will be listed in the manual. It'll either be 3/8, 5/16 or 1/2 inch but you'll need to confirm the type of chain to use as that's important as well. Here is the link....

Good luck and hope you get her underway as quickly as possible. Keep us posted.

Welcome aboard!! Will be interested to see more posts on your saga when you get the chances to post them!!

On the muffler, I'd be VERY inclined to just have a "straight pipe" made to get the vessel running while you track down the actual replacement (or have one made). And if the "rubr 6" 90deg" is a custom part, I'd consider getting a stock stainless 6" 90 and using two smaller 6" rubber (or silicone) hoses to attach it (if that's indeed something that would work).

I agree, some of the items might be off-the-shelf mass-produced parts that can be found on-line or through marine retailers. They don't have to be the same brand, they just have to fit/work.

Sorry to fall off the planet. The CYO site keeps greeting me with "Error 500" whenever I try to update, or anything anything past the landing page for that matter..

Engines are Cummins 6CTA (430 HP), both are now running as of last night.. we haven't done anything beyond idle them. Need to check the props for whoknowswhat (there's a farm of sea life growing on the underside of the hull) and would like to do at least basic transmission maintenance before engaging anything. (it's been sitting abandoned for over a year now)

The Carver elbows and exhaust sections were found in San Diego, perfect fit.. Mufflers aren't leaking...yet.

Upgraded water pumps were found in Oxnard, CA (2-hr drive), Seaboard Marine upgrades the OEM pumps to avoid common points of failure and even provides replacement impellers and other parts. Nice guys and easy to work with.

Picked up a 60# anchor and 300' of 5/16" chain, only to find out that the windless either isn't working or we need to get the wiring sorted out before it will work.

Generator worked straight away and no issues with the water maker.

No remote for the upperdeck davit, so we'll need to find a solution once we get everything else done.

Picked up a dinghy locally for $200.. no outboard

Next purchase is a Mastervolt 3000W 160A (12V), or similar.

Harbor Department updated their deadline to the 3th of November to get things working, so no fines as of yet.. knock on wood ..so "only" paying the $1K/week for the buoy moorage. (welcome to Huntington Beach)

Can't complain about the costs too much, we should be leaving next week with a beautiful boat having only invested less than $25K.

Oh.. the batteries, I forgot the batteries, two of the giant ones.. that was an all-day project in and of itself.

Besides her needing a serious cleaning, all in all pretty happy so far.

Windless is now working. It was just a blown fuse, which wasn't where the documentation said it would be.

The hull had a few hundred pounds of sea life removed today, some of the seagrass(?) was 15' long.

We're glad we chose not to engage the props before inspecting and cleaning everything, there was a decent sized rope wound between both props.

Everything works according to the very limited testing done so far. Water maker's low pressure pump got stepped on somehow and now has a crack, currently the only thing not working.
