Thinking of going to AGM since with the current battery location there is no way to check fluid levels or top off if necessary. The existing AC charger has a AGM setting, but what about the engine driven alternator?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 1990 3297 - Crusader 270 Fuel Pumps
- Posted by: Gag_Halfront » October 5th, 2023, 10:18 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
My 1990 Mariner 32 has Crusader 270 engines and I need a fuel pump. None of the usual parts stores had the right pump. I live near Basic Power Industries and those guys are crusader experts, but they were stumped as well. They initially suspected it was part number CRU-97842 which was on back order. When it came in I took my pump with and compared. It's still the wrong part. The CRU-97842 has inlet at 7:00 and outlet at 6:00. My pump has inlet at 6:00 and outlet at 7:00. To make matters worse, there are no numbers on the flange.
The parts store clerks all said if I just ordered a "close enough" pump I could clock the housing how I needed it, but it looks to me like that's not right because of the way the bolts hold it together. It looks like it only goes one way. The guys at BPI said it's absolutely not supposed to be "clocked" and doing so would void the warranty.
Both engines have the same fuel filter, steel lines, and pump setup so whatever the mystery pump is, it's on both engines and appears to be stock.
Can anybody ID this pump so that I can order a replacement? My search-fu is exhausted, I've driven all over several counties, and I really don't know what else to do besides bite the bullet and convert to an electric pump. Pictures attached include my existing pump right-side flange, left-side flange, inlet/outlet orientation and the CRU-97842 inlet/outlet orientation.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 530 Pilothouse Cummins rebuild in engine room?
- Posted by: glynnalan » October 5th, 2023, 7:46 pm
- Forum: Diesel Engines/Transmissions
I'm hoping i can get some help or guidance from my fellow boaters as i'm a bit overwhelmed (and depressed)-
I lost a starboard impeller which started a chain reaction of damage to the turbo, rocker valves and piston.
Before scoping the piston we replaced the turbo and impeller but heard a rattle in the valve cover. After removing we found a rocker lifter damage on the cylinder nearest the turbo. We removed the injector to scope the piston and found the damage attached in the photo. Looks like the valve seat did the damage from overheating.
My question is has anyone had experience in replacing pistons / bottom end without removing the engine from the boat? we are going to attempt to rebuild inside the engine room (it's really the only option). The marina we are at has no mechanical services or a way to get our boat out of the water at lake mead.
appreciate any advise!
Motor model: Cummins 6CTA 8.3 M2
Boat: Carver Voyager 530 Pilothouse
thanks,
Glynn

View the latest post Attachment(s) A/C Compressor shuts off after few minutes on heat cycle
- Posted by: JeffandErin » October 3rd, 2023, 9:26 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
1984 Carver AC. Salon AC is a Marine Systems Air Model CM16H
Symptom: When started on heat cycle, the unit will operate for 3 to 5 minutes. Then the compressor will shut off. About 30 seconds later, there will be an extreme spike in amperage draw and the main 100 Amp AC breaker will trip. The water pump breaker does not trip nor does the salon AC breaker. Just the main 100 Amp breaker
The Fwd and after AC units operate with no issues - its just the salon unit.
Yes, I have strong water flow out all 3 of the outflows (2 on port, one on starboard). I have opened and cleaned the pump strainer several times.
I have removed the return air vent and cleaned the filter. I tried testing by run the AC unit on heat mode with the return air cover removed and it did not change anything
When the compressor shuts down, it is not warm to the touch (I thought it might be overheating)
My marina mechanic spent a very short time troubleshooting (its haulout time where I live and he is very busy). He told me that he tested the Freon and said it was fine.
If I run the system on Cooling - I have no issues at all. Its only on the heat mode.
My marina mechanic suspects that it is the reversing valve. I had no idea what that was - so I did a bit of Google research. It seems to me that if the reversing valve were sticking - I would get no heat at all. That is not the case. When I run it on heat mode, I get heated air blowing into the salon. It runs that way for about 5 minutes and then the compressor shuts off. The air handler/blower fan continues to operate and move air. About 30 seconds later, there is a spike in amperage draw and the main 100 amp breaker trips.
I shut off the salon ac unit, reset the 100 amp breaker, and i can turn the ac unit right back on in heat mode.
Any help would be appreciated

View the latest post 1996 Volvo penta 5.0 engine issues
- Posted by: mhinz000 » October 3rd, 2023, 8:59 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
1996 carver 310 with dual volvo penta (ford)5.0 engines. at the beginning of the season we were having issues with the engines running rough while cruising. would get up on plane and eventually start bogging down. the engine sync gauge would go one way or the other and then eventually stall one or both of the engines while putting thru the marina. after going thru some maintenance items, cleaned the air filter, checked the plugs(ok), cap and rotor were toast replaced that. one of the coils tips was rusty and corroded replaced with an oreilly brand coil and seemed to work fine for a little while but ended up getting a DOA coil. replaced with another one and that seemed to work but then more issues started arising later on once it got warmed up and on plane again. bogging down while up on plane. at one point i was thinking there was a fuel issue because we were doing some hard banking left and right and would nearly stall but then swapped in an original coil and could not get that specific issue to repeat. i believe the coils still may be an issue and plan on replacing with motorcraft ones and still need to check the fuel filters for contaminants. had a thought that potentially the ignition control modules for each engine might be causing an issue once they get hot but i have no codes stored in the pcm. im no expert on obd1/eec diagnostics vehicles/engines. any of your help and wisdom would be much appreciated.

I am the proud new owner of 2001 voyager 450. I am selling my 1989 3607 that I had for four years. I got manuals with the voyager, but from reading it still unclear how the grey water discharges or is stored. I have the large open area behind the washer and dryer so I think they grey water discharges, but have not visually seen it, as I believe it may be lower then the waterline. Any help on the greywater system? Any manuals to share or info is always welcome. I tried the manual store asxreferenced but nothing would go to the cart to download. Thanks Carver Family

Good day all!
I’m looking at various mini yachts in the 30’ range and came across a 1993 280 Sedan. I’m trying to gather as much info as I can on the model and figured this a logical place to solicit knowledge, experiences and things to look out for in consideration of this particular vessel.
Thanks!
