I'd have to wear an A frame sign too because they just come right up to you anyway. I was in a shop today that had large clear signs on their doors to keep away but that didn't matter, we slipped up one time and didn't lock it, a customer came right in as if he owned the place demanding someone go to his boat immediately. He'll be waiting a while!! There are a lot of good understanding people out there but it's the idiots that ruin it for everybody. With all that's been happening and the amount of news coverage, it can't be because they don't know any better, it's gotta be because they just don't care or they believe the problem isn't real.

bud37 wrote:Source of the post.....seems they have been sold some fogging spray to deal with contact surfaces at 40 bucks an application.....

Personally I wouldn't do that. I can see it now, something will get stained or blamed, and marinas will be replacing furniture, carpets, fabric wall coverings, etc. I'd put a system in place where the customer is advised of when a technician was on their boat and then it's up to them to either wait a few days before boarding or disinfect the boat themselves.

I heard some disturbing examples from a few colleagues of what went on in some marinas over the weekend. Not good, and a lot of marinas haven't even opened up yet. I sure hope this doesn't make things worse.

That would be great. Splash the big tub and quarantine on the water. :drunk:

It seems to me that social distancing is much easier in a boat.

Viper - you are correct, with all the info out there, people should be able to figure it out. There is however, a contingent of "stupid" people out there. And, being the ace mechanic you are, you know you just can't fix "stupid". The guy DEMANDS you go look at his boat???? I hope he has really large pants on, cause he certainly has a set. 8-) er

I think it's more along the lines that some feel they are entitled and nobody else matters.

I walked off a boat today right in front of a customer. I told him prior to going over that he was to stay away from and not touch the boat while I was there. Of course that was too much to ask. He showed up and him and his wife started loading the boat while I was still on board  I packed my tools, walked off the boat, and drove away. He called me soon after, asked why I left without finishing and when I'd be back. I asked him if he thought I was joking when I told him to stay away. I told him he either did think I was joking or didn't care for my well-being or that of my family. He'll be looking for someone else to finish the job if anybody's interest, and he'll need to find someone else to do repairs from now on.

Another guy was warned that if he sets foot on his boat, I will not board it for three days. Of course he's been on his boat daily and asked me this morning when I was coming over as he wants his boat for the weekend. I reminded him about the 3 days and told him I knew he's been on board today. His reply was that he has been tested and is clear so no worries. I asked "oh ya, when was that, this morning?" He said, "no, about a couple of weeks ago so I'm good" As if being tested somehow prevents you from catching the virus afterwards. Some people are so stupid! That seems to be the ongoing theme though that people seem to think they know whether they're infected or not. That's great, no testing needed then! It won't be me getting his boat ready for the weekend.

You know, prior to this, I thought I had a really good bunch of clientele. Actually most still are but the odd one is really starting to show their true colors during all this. That's fine, I don't have a problem walking away, I'm happily in a position where I really don't need them all anyway.

That's my COVID rant for the day. I didn't think it was going to be this bad but clearly I was wrong so stay tuned, I'm sure I'll have more stupidity to report later.

We are trying to change peoples habits they had for years. It's going to be tough, they just want to be around when your there. I checked a boat on Saturday for a no start. Within 5 minutes, 2 more people on board. I politely said I have to back to my boat.

Good for you Viper! Feel bad for you to have to deal with these guys. I was working at my very part time hobby job the other day. A guy & his wife came in just coughing and hacking away. No mask. I asked them to stay behind a line we have in the aisle, while I get their product for them. They said " Oh, no problems, we just have allergies ". DUH! Really, I should just not be concerned? I have kids and grandkids I would like to see some day. But,...they were the only people I had to deal with. Fortunately, our marina tenants are all on the same page, so no problems there. The marina actually opens up today, with a very good plan to make private lounge available all day. They will close the lounge twice a day for 1 hour to disinfect any potential germs. Anyone using the lounge is required to wear a mask. Amenities are limited, but at least they are addressing the problem. Stay smart, stay healthy. 8-) er

Well, I guess it was inevitable, a tech colleague of mine was sent home and told to get tested for COVID because the marina got a call stating that one of their customers had symptoms and tested positive but was at his boat anyway. Not cool. The tech was on board the day after the customer left the marina. So now the tech has to somehow isolate himself from his family and work for 3 or 4 days while he waits for the results. The marina is now debating whether they need to take further measures with the rest of the employees and possibly shut down the marina to everybody for a week because they can't be sure where the customer was or what he touched during his stay. I new this was coming.
