I spoke with the service manager and transporter dispatcher several times a day, and was given conflicting information. So all info was second or third hand. Both were My company contacts thru out the process. I still have not spoken with the actual truck driver or yard crew at the marina. If I was there, that would change real time. Boots on the ground!
Update: Last night after just prop shafts were pulled, (Not Struts) the boat was lowered down to 15' 2" on the trailer. The helm pod was never removed by marina.
This morning the truck driver took things into his own hands and actually removed the helm pod in a few hours by himself, I'm told. He is reputed to be an avid boater with several restos under his belt. I'm told that after the pod was removed, that the boat On Trailer height was . . . . . .(Drum Roll). . . . . . 14' 11"
The 1998 Carver 405, the truck Driver and trailer pulled out of the marina yard at approx 12:00, bound for Wisconsin. I have installed several crisp $100 bills into My front pocket, to give to that darn pod pulling, truck driving son of a gun! When he arrives, also a small parade in his honor is not out of the question.
All extra driver "wait fees" have been waved, thru negotiation. No body wanted that truck to leave empty. The $3750 up-charge for over height is still in place.
So, in case your ever sitting around one evening, and you just start to wondering how tall a Carver 370, 405, 406 actually is on a trailer Without, pulling the Flybridge, I can tell You. It's 14',11". But you have to pull the aft hardtop, radar arch, bridge venturi, props, rudders and propshafts and dont forget that instrument control pod!. And if the boat in question happens to be coming out of the Great State of Texas, you should probably make sure that your driver is Handy.
