Yes Sir, Your right on the money with that one.

I spoke with the service manager and transporter dispatcher several times a day, and was given conflicting information. So all info was second or third hand. Both were My company contacts thru out the process. I still have not spoken with the actual truck driver or yard crew at the marina. If I was there, that would change real time. Boots on the ground!

Update: Last night after just prop shafts were pulled, (Not Struts) the boat was lowered down to 15' 2" on the trailer. The helm pod was never removed by marina.

This morning the truck driver took things into his own hands and actually removed the helm pod in a few hours by himself, I'm told. He is reputed to be an avid boater with several restos under his belt. I'm told that after the pod was removed, that the boat On Trailer height was . . . . . .(Drum Roll). . . . . . 14' 11"

The 1998 Carver 405, the truck Driver and trailer pulled out of the marina yard at approx 12:00, bound for Wisconsin. I have installed several crisp $100 bills into My front pocket, to give to that darn pod pulling, truck driving son of a gun! When he arrives, also a small parade in his honor is not out of the question.

All extra driver "wait fees" have been waved, thru negotiation. No body wanted that truck to leave empty. The $3750 up-charge for over height is still in place.

So, in case your ever sitting around one evening, and you just start to wondering how tall a Carver 370, 405, 406 actually is on a trailer Without, pulling the Flybridge, I can tell You. It's 14',11". But you have to pull the aft hardtop, radar arch, bridge venturi, props, rudders and propshafts and dont forget that instrument control pod!. And if the boat in question happens to be coming out of the Great State of Texas, you should probably make sure that your driver is Handy.

I'm surprised they only got 3 more inches. It looks like that helm pod is sticking up pretty good in the pictures. I would have guessed they would have gained 8-10" just by guessing.

Glad it's on the way!! Is that a 2-3 day trip?

Thank You for paying attention. The instrument control pod sits all of 10" above the flybridge surround horseshoe thing. BUT, the cabin entrance, seat base thing which is a separate molding, sits all of 7" above the flybridge surround horseshoe thing. That is now the highest point.

First leg of route is thru Dallas, OK City and Kansas City. All have oversize load curfews for rush hours. Driver just Reported to have met the Oklahoma chase car already this morning. Revised LaCrosse WI ETA, and a picture coming up.

Driver update. Just south of Kansas City, down for the night. Can not run after dark, 500 miles left on normal car route. 600 miles left on permitted route. I just might sleep good tonight.

Alright then, the circus has come to a close. The 98' Carver 405 is finally home. Now the work begins restoring this boat to it's former glory.

I'm happy, the boat came in on 4 keel supports and 6 chine supports, well strapped and tensioned. The driver went back over all the in cabin parts placements of marina, and corrected where necessary. All hatches and loose ends secured with shrink wrap tape. All helm wiring well marked and placed with minimal cutting. Radar arch, Hardtop and Helm Pod, well cushioned, strapped and placed on boat or truck. Everything well documented and photographed, prior to departure, In 106 degree Texas heat. In other words, this driver saved this move from complete disaster. I tipped accordingly, and made sure that he was unloaded on a Saturday at 7:30 PM. (Grease Works)

I'm not often impressed much anymore, but this is a company I can wholeheartedly recommend. If it's allowed, their name is Cross Country Boat Transport, out of Hastings Minnesota. Just call Molly, they go most anywhere.

Original Austin TX to LaCrosse WI, 1200 mi quote at 13' 6" height, $8750, Original marina dismantling quote $1200-$1500, not including a flybridge removal.

After Circus. Transport, $8750 + $3750 over height up-charge = $12500. Marina bill, still without a flybridge removal, and rec'd within 10 minutes of boats departure, $2550. Also, $350 in grease and tips in Wisconsin.

My Original budget, $12500 for everything.

Thanks for having Me.
