View the latest post aluminium Fuel tank questions

So , after reading the thread about the fuel tank replace I can't help but wonder about the reason for the tank failures.....is it bad Al metallurgy, grounding electrolysis, fuel changes or just funky installation practices??

We have been looking for a new boat for a while now and these tanks are probably the thing I look at the hardest as to ease of replacement if necessary ( don't have a million in the bank, lol ).So what say you folk....

I replaced the 40 year old galvanized tanks in our current boat this past year with plastic because maybe they can deal with the new fuels better....

View the latest post Will Need New Batteries

When I bought my boat last August I had no idea how old the batteries are. I knew one was weak and I planned to get new ones this year. Last Saturday I went down to the boat to start prepping it for spring launch. I turned on the battery switch and nothing, nada, batteries stone cold dead. Now which battery to purchase.

My last boat the 3055 had a 4 battery setup. When I bought the boat it came with a 2 battery setup. I had the dealer install 2 additional batteries so I had 4. My first battery failure happened late in the 2004 season. In the spring of 2005 I purchased 4 new Sears Diehard Deep Cycle Marine batteries. They were still going strong in August of 2011 when I sold the boat or almost 7 full seasons of use. When winter layup happened I just shut off both battery switches and I never had a problem come spring when I first fired up. I was mildly surprised in 2011 when the boat fired up on the first try.

I will replace the current batteries in the Carver before I take her out the first time. I went to Sears yesterday and I priced the Diehard Group 27 Deep Cycle batteries at $126 each.

Today I went to Sams Club and they have Duracell Group 27 Deep Cycle Marine batteries for $96 each. Has anyone tried or used Duracell Deep Cycle marine batteries and what was your experience with them. I am still leaning towards the Diehard because I had such a great experience the last time I bought them. I would consider the Duracell if they come with good reviews.

What say ye Carver owners. Duracell or Diehard or do you recommend another brand.

View the latest post '97 Carver 400 Port Engine belt change

I have a "97 carver 400 with Cummins BT5.9 diesels and a dinette and galley down, forward of the engine room..
Any tips on how to gain access to the port side engine to do a belt and tensioner change?
The gen set cuts off access to the front of the engine.
Anyone ever dealt with this?
Is there a way to partially disassemble the dinette maybe?
There is a fair amount of space underneath the dinette
Any other ideas options?

View the latest post 2000 Carver 406 7.4 MPI Spark Plugs

I can't see placards on my engines and couldn't get an answer from my books, so I'll just ask here: Does anyone know what spark plugs are specified for the Mercruiser 7.4 MPI engines on my 406. They are probably 1999 engines instead of 2000.

View the latest post Replacement shower control lever 1999 350 Mariner

When recommissioning this spring, we found out that the shower control lever was leaking. Looks like the washers in the cartridge dried out over the winter. Having a heck of a time finding a replacement cartridge or even a full shower control lever. Anyone else had to replace theirs or know of one that would work? Ordering one directly from Carver looks like it may take several weeks.

Saw this one on one of the Canadian marine stores website but can't tell if it will work.

View the latest post What Is This

Below are a couple of pictures of something on my 1981 3007 Aft Cabin. I have 2 of them. One is located in the main salon. The other is located outside on the bridge. What are they and what are they used for?
