View the latest post VacuFlush Vacuum Breaker Replacement

Replacing a leaky vacuum breaker. The SeaLand instructions say to basically disassemble the toilet. It appears the vacuum breaker should be accessible without disassembly. Does anyone have experience with this?

My 406 with 7.4 MPI's has fuel filters mounted lower than the fuel in the fuel tanks. Can I just turn fuel valves off to avoid a fuel spill in the hull when changing filters, or do I need to take more measures and, if so, what?

View the latest post Starboard Engine Overheating

I have twin 454s and they run fine at low RPMs. However, if I try to open the boat up at all, the starboard engine quickly gets too hot. 30 seconds or so and it is already at 200 degrees. I can back it back down and it will slowly cool off and be good to go again. I'm thinking it could be a thermostat or bad water pump. What do y'all think?

View the latest post New Liveaboard Owner

Hey guys. I just bought a 1988 Carver 3807 located at Gangplank Marina in DC. My wife and I will be living aboard. I've never owned a boat, but am very handy. There are quite a few things that need to be done to the boat, though overall it is in good shape. So, I'm sure I'll be hitting y'all up with plenty of questions. This forum seems to have a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks!
Mark

View the latest post Kudos To Perko

Last August I purchased my 1981 Carver 3007 Aft Cabin. One thing that did not come with the boat was a key to the cabin doors. Somewhere over the previous 34 years and 2 owners the cabin key was lost.

I saw a code on the lock itself. I emailed Perko last week but heard nothing. Yesterday I called them and asked if it were possible for them to get me the needed key. I gave the lady on the phone the lock code. She said that is an old code, what year is your boat. I told her it was a 1981 Carver. She said that they probably did not stock keys that old but she would go and look.

She was gone a few minutes. When she came back on the line she said that she found 2 keys and that she would hold them for me. In order for them to ship the keys to me they needed me to send them a copy of the title, or registration or insurance showing that I indeed was the owner of the boat. They said for the small amount they would not let me use a credit card that I would have to send a check. No problem says I. I asked how much for the keys. She said $1.80 each for the keys and $1.50 for shipping. So, for the mere sum of $5.10 I will be able to lock the cabin doors once I launch.

I mailed out the check and the copy of the title with Wednesdays mail. Hopefully I will have the keys in a couple of weeks, hopefully sooner. Although theft is not a big problem at the marina I am at this will at least slow down a thief for a couple of seconds with the doors locked.

Once again, kudos and thanks to Perko for great customer service.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 1998 355AC

After almost three months from offer to settlement, as of May 7, we now own a 1998 355.
We had to work through some issues, the main issue was the previous owner owed about 30k more than we were willing to pay, so he had to work though this with his bank. It was sitting on the hard for three years so it definitely needs some work. we also had some survey issues such as chatter from one of the flex plates (thanks for all your help with this). Other than this there were only minor issues. In the end it surveyed for over 30k above what we paid, and has solid hull and decks, so I believe we made a good purchase.
We had it hauled today for a double compound and wax. Next week all new canvas. A couple pictures attached.

Oh, forgot to add the new name..

View the latest post Attachment(s) Raymarine L1250C & RL70C for sale

Hello all, I have removed a Raymarine setup from the 355 I just purchased.
I have an L1250 Plus Chartplotter/sounder/ fish finder, an RL70C Plus Radar Display/MFD, both with suncovers. A P99 transducer and a 24" radome. Also includes GPS antennas, multiple seatalk cables and some NEMA 0183 cables. Everything looks good and works good.
Let me know if interested, looking for $900.00 for all.
Located in PA but spend most weekends in the Northern Chesapeake Bay. (Northeast, MD).

Thanks
Tom

View the latest post Attachment(s) Replacing Nav Lights & Deck Lights with LED's

So I thought I would replace all my Navigation Lights and my Deck Lights with LED's. Did the research and found what I thought were exact replacements from the same manufacture and low and behold had to modify each and everyone.
The manufactures forgot one important thing, to bring the wires out of the casings in the same place they did 20 years ago. So if you plan on going LED, plan on modify every new light you install. Mike
