- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Hello,
My wife and I just purchased (ok, my wife purchased) a 1990 Carver 3607. We bought from a fiend who has owned her for 3 years, so we know the boat and recent maintenance pretty well. We are new to this class of boat, well boating in general. We are both pilots that love flying seaplanes however.
Thanks for letting us join!

I am looking to buy a marine battery for a new 16ft boat that I ordered. I'm trying to decide on GTK Marine Power battery. I will have a 46# trust FCTM, bilge pump, Electric start 25hp Yamaha, depth finder and a few other things running on it. What do you guys suggest? I have a yellow top Optima on my truck now(same battery for 10yrs) and love it but have never used their marine battery before and wonder if it will have enough capacity to run everything for a full day of Bass fishing. Whatcha think guys?

View the latest post Windlass for carver 3207?
- Posted by: Superg » August 1st, 2023, 7:16 pm
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
I would like a recommendation for type and location of a new windlass install for a 3207. I would like to put it above deck rather than in the locker, but would there be any issue with the rode piling up on the deck rather than going down neatly through that small hole? Horizontal or vertical?
Thanks in advance,
john.

I just flushed my heat exchanger - a friend at the dock suggested using a product on the inside of the hose ends before sliding them back on and tightening the clamps to help with the seal. Has anyone used such a product? If so, what's it called?

- Forum: General Boating Discussion
Hi, all, on my 1998 445 with Cummins diesel’s the starboard shaft at the packing nut has started a drip about one per second while the shaft is not turning. I pulled about 4 to 5 gallons out of the bilge in 24 hours. Mechanics are going to take a look at it later today. Obviously, I don’t know if it’s simply tightening the nut or something else. Would anyone know approximately how many pounds of torque would be needed to tighten that nut? Thanks advance!

How many Carver owners here, past or present have owned a Trojan yacht in their boating lives, like the F models etc, even the woodies before that.....I mean the Trojans up to the bankruptcy, not the more recent Carver Trojan models.....

View the latest post "Sluggish" port engine shaft
- Posted by: Superg » July 29th, 2023, 4:00 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
When my boat was last laid up, I noticed that the port side shaft had a LOT more resistance to rotate than the starboard shaft, which rotated quite freely and easily (and without vibration or lateral movement by the way). Ok, but could be because laid up on stilts, the boat changes shape, puts pressure on shaft bearings, etc.
So now with my boat in water, the same thing. Rotating the port shaft faces VERY noticeable resistance => engine must do more work to turn it. Starboard shaft rotates freely and efficiently.
I was hoping this was just an issue with the cutlass bearing, but I know that was optimistic thinking. I really think the truth is that the resistance is coming from inside the port engine itself. Any thoughts? Hate to have to have this engine pulled out when the boat otherwise seems to run well. But I know that resistance must have an effect that the engine has to overcome.
