View the latest post Mantus M2
- Posted by: TruckerTim » July 12th, 2022, 1:17 pm
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
Looking at the Mantus M2 65lbs for my 2000 450 Voyager. I called them and the sales guy "thinks" it will fit on the bow roller with no issues. (M2 is the one with the roll bar.) My bow roller is the factory original setup, no modifications.
Two questions:
1) He recommends the 65lbs since I will be anchoring over night at times. I get the concept of "you can never have too big of an anchor" but the other recommendations on other anchor sites say 45 to 50lbs is more than enough for the 450.
2) Anyone else have the Mantus M2 on there 450? Really don't want to buy it only to have to ship it back due to not fitting properly.
Thanks!

New here - and needing training
- Posted by: KyleR » July 11th, 2022, 1:11 pm
- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Hi everyone,
My wife and I have a contract on a 2002 396 scheduled for haul-out/survey in a couple of weeks.
Pending no issues and the closing goes well, we are going to need some training by a USCG licensed skipper for insurance purposes.
The boat is moored in Wildwood New Jersey so we would prefer a skipper near that area and who is very familiar with the Carver line, particularly one similar to ours. But that is definitely not a requirement - just a wish list!
Any offers or recommendations? Thanks so much!
Kyle

View the latest post Attachment(s) Hynautic H-50 helm leaking & unknown pump
- Posted by: Merkinbrumsky » July 11th, 2022, 10:35 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
So I have a 1985 Carver Voyager 28 I bought last summer. This weekend the fly bridge helm started spitting steering fluid out onto the dash panel. Nothing underneath or behind. I’m assuming a seal has let go and time for a rebuild. Kits are readily available so shouldn’t be a problem getting them. Has anyone here done a rebuild on an h-50? Any pointers? Also, there is a pump located within a few feet of the hynautic reservoir in the engine space. Can anyone identify this? Power assisted steering? Or? Will this pump effect the purge after seal replacement? Can I add sea star steering fluid intermittently to maintain steerage until I rebuild the helm? Is the fluid added at the reservoir? Or?
Thanks

View the latest post Riviera bilge issue - how to access?
- Posted by: SunsetSteve » July 11th, 2022, 7:41 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
As always, the manual no help. Fwd bilge (lowest point of bilges) will not drain unless I use a sump pump and drain hose. I thought there was no pump in that part of the bilge, but when I stuck my head down the hatch under the fwd table with a flashlight I could see there is a pump way up tight against the V. I can see no way to access that pump in order to replace it, and it would take a heck of a lot of water in the boat before the other bilge pumps (all in higher bilges) would trigger.
I would like to know if there is a way to replace this pump without sawing a hole through the sole and destroying the boat!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Does your sofa/lounge have this?

- Forum: The Project Center
I have only seen this hard plastic lounge base on a couple of 396s in our search. Does anyone here have this option who can definitively tell me what this is? I know that with this option there is only one recliner vs two. It looks like storage but I couldn't figure out how to open it!
Thanks so much!!

So I may not using the search option correctly, but im sure somewhere on here is a tutorial on how to change the belt on a 1976 Ford 351M engine.

View the latest post 2002 396 swim platform spongy
- Posted by: KyleR » July 9th, 2022, 10:45 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Hi everyone - new member and first time posting. Our offer was accepted and we are scheduled for survey/haul-out in a couple of weeks on a 2002 396.
However, based on our initial walk-through we identified the swim platform was quite spongy over a large area - especially in the middle section. I have searched and read dozens of posts on here about this issue and the potential causes (e.g. dock box screws, poor davit/aftermarket equipment installs, etc.) so I have a good idea of what SHOULD have been done by the current owner, but obviously was neglected.
Anyway, for those of you who have had this issue and had it repaired, would you mind sharing your costs associated with it and if you had it done professionally or DIY? I am not afraid of a big project - and actually prefer it - as I am then assured of the repair quality and it gives me a better understanding of how the boat is built. But sometimes it is best to just let the pros take care of it.
I am guessing the surveyor will give an estimate for repairs but I would like to come prepared with real-world numbers from owners who have dealt with this issue.
Thanks in advance to all and I look forward to being here!!
Kyle
