View the latest post Kohler 8KW generator

Should have posted this question first. New to this forum business!

Kohler 8KW Model 8E gas generator not turning over. Hear the solenoid clicking but starter does not turn. Brand new battery dedicated to generator. I manually turned over engine and it moves freely. Generator fairly new with only 25 hours on meter. Unfortunately, it has not been used in a couple of years.

View the latest post AC Aft cabin leaking

Hi,
I have a 1989 3807 aft cabin. The problem I am having is with the aft cabin AC unit overflowing. It is not consistant but it overflows the drain pan evey other time we use it. It seeps out under the drain tray from the black cushion and onto the carpet.

I can not see or touch the drain hole from the tray - no access.

Prior to do the below step the leak was stopped because no more water was seeping out.

1. We disconnected the drain line to the sump pump and put a hose to the line and the water came out into the tray because we could see the tray fill up with water - here is the strange part, I quit putting water through the line - it drained pretty good - but still leaked even with the drain supposedly clear.

2. My first thought the tray had a hole in it - well it holds water and does not leak all the time, so that does not seem to be the case

2. I was going to pull the unit - but I have no way of disconnectng the drain line.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
Mitchellp

View the latest post Attachment(s) Crusader 350 stutter/dies over 3000 rpm

One of my crusaders dies when going from 2000rpm to 3000+rpm. I can run 2-3 hours at 2000rpm (7 knot restrictions) but on open water i try to go on plane one of the engines dies. Checked the fuel filter Qs 35-802893Q1 and emptied it in a glass jar. As you can see i think i found the problem but what is the next step except replacing the filter?

View the latest post Burned line wire at circuit breaker

Looking for some help on with AC electrical issue.

Over the weekend we returned from a cruise and plugged into shore power. Shortly thereafter, smelled electrical burning. Shut things down and took ac panel cover off and found line wires burned at connection to the circuit breaker that is connected to AC unit 2. The wire that burned is the one providing power from shore #2 main breaker (shore #2 has 2 ac units and ac water pump), as best I can tell. The other two circuit breakers then receive line power in daisy chain fashion from this breaker, and are connected to ac unit 1 and the ac water pump. None of the breakers tripped, but eventually the daisy chain connection to the second circuit breaker burned through so ac unit 1 and the ac pump no longer received power. Ac unit 2 continued to operate. I ohmed out the compressor on ac unit 1 and it checked out good.

A couple of questions because master boat electrician I am not. Because this happened on the line side, it seems to me this was caused by a loose/corroded connection of that wire to the line side of the circuit breaker. I plan to rewire and then check to see if all is well. Also, plan to replace that breaker when I can locate one (boat is a 95 and in a quick search I didnt locate a readily available replacement). Are there any other possible causes or concerns I should consider?

View the latest post 1981 3007 - Replacement sliding window

Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone would know where to obtain a replacement port-side sliding window for our 1981 3007. It looks like someone knocked off the embedded handle, which broke the interior layer of glass.

Thankfully, it's just one layer of the double glazing, so it's watertight, but it looks awful so hoping we can get a replacement pane somehow.

Thanks!

View the latest post 12 volt verses 120 volt?

Would love to hear y’all’s thoughts. I have an older Norcold 120/12volt refrigerator. Would it be better to buy another 120/12volt fridge OR buy a much more efficient 120 volt refrigerator and an inverter. I’ve heard they use up your battery, but at anchor for the day, my current one runs off battery and doesn’t do that great of a job. I’m thinking the 120v one do a much better job and wouldn’t use as much power, but I wanted to see if anybody in the group has experience doing that?

View the latest post One Circuit trips shore power

EVERYTING WORKS fine with generator. When I plug into shore power the breaker ON THE DOCK trips. It ONLY trips when I flip the MICROWAVE circuit on inside the boat. Otherwise the dock power is fine... I tried other plugs on the dock as issue.

I am not attempting to use the microwave, just flipping the dedicated switch om the boat panel causes the dock to trip.

I disconnected the shore power, started the generator. No power fluctuations and used the microwave with no issues..

I plug back into the dock..It trips as soon as I flip the microwave circuit on..
Shore power plugs new and clean. no burns

360 Mariner... Thanks all

View the latest post Hynautic to Hydraulic fittings for autopilot

Seriously thinking about adding an autopilot at some point in the near future. I have the original 5/16” od vinyl hynautic steering lines and fittings on my 28 voyager. What type of fittings/adaptor do I need to tie in the autopilot pump to the hynautic lines to go from the hynautic fittings to the standard hydraulic fittings on a raymarine autopilot pump?

Thanks

View the latest post 1986 Carver 42 aft cabin steering

Good morning everyone. I'm new here with a 1986 Carver 42 aft cabin. Wondering if anyone may know where to find a hynautic Inc K1 steering cylinder. I took mine off and shipped it to boat steering solutions in Nokomis FL to be remanned and USPS lost it in route apparently. Thought there maybe a slight chance of one not being used. Boat steering solutions said they didn't have the parts to build one but could reman mine. Any ideas would be great. Sorry for the long first post
