View the latest post Attachment(s) Using a thru-hull transducer on a 3807

I just hauled out our 3807, mostly due to a leaking, original (1988) speedometer mechanism. It fit thru a 2-1/4” hole in the hull. Hasn’t worked in years. My thoughts were putting an updated transducer in there for more modern electronics might be cheaper than labor to re-fiberglass the hole and open me up to upgrade the electronics. Turns out to be true. Installer just enlarges existing hole by 5/8” and pops it in. Here’s the rub. He’s a bit gun shy. He says if I hit something it could shift it and leak. It’s flush with the bottom of the hull and sealed under the flange and threads through the hull with 3M 5200. I doubt you could move it if you try and if it does move, then the boat hit something that probably totaled it anyway. Don’t most larger inboard boats use thru hulls transducers? Doesn’t make sense to me, but I am old enough to know there’s always opportunity learn something new. I asked him to install it anyway and if that happens then it’s on me. I may learn the hard way. Thoughts?

View the latest post 1997 405 soft spot in fiberglass floor left of helm

I have a 97 405 that was dry docked open to the elements for nearly 5 years. The caulking between the helm and the flybridge "floor" shrunk allowing water penetration, resulting in a notably "soft" 2t x 2ft area of the fiberglass floor left of the helm station.

My question is, what would be the best way to repair this? From the top side by cutting the 2x2 section out of the fiberglass, then repairing the area and replacing glass and gel coat, or should we plan to go in from the bottom by taking out the headliner section just above the sofa in the salon? There is no evidence of water penetration making it to the interior, and the headliner is in great shape. My goal is to be the least destructive as possible.

View the latest post 1983 Aft Cabin Port Seacock Question

Hi there,

Im currently repairing the intake line for my portside seacock hose. (It cracked during the winter while it was out of the water getting worked on.)

Does anyone know, once I make this repair if the toilets are connected as well as the AC units? I can’t seem to get water to flow into my toilets, however the pumps work without it. I’m hoping once I get this hose intact that everything will run accordingly.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 2000 Carver 506 - AFT carpet soaked

Hey guys hope everyone is enjoying the boating season.
Family and I finally took the carver out, Cummins worked flawlessly, open her up to 2400rpm and 17-18 knots..

for the love of me i can't seem to find where the water is coming from, i think it has something to do when i turn the AC on, it gets wet near the corner Port side Aft.
Wondering if any other 506 owners had this issue? Clogged condesation AC line?

Thanks All in Advance

View the latest post A/C circuit only works on Shorepower

1986 AC3207 with a Kohler 7.5 gen. generator. Circuit 1 has plugs/misc and Circuit 2 has 2 AC units. Was cruising last summer with generator on and both AC units running and Circuit 2 lost power. Reset breaker no difference. got back to dock and shore power powered up circuit 2 fine. I have looked for circuit breakers on the generator itself and could not find any. Currently thinking maybe I should change the main circuit 2 breaker? Thoughts? Thanks.

View the latest post Looking to buy 1999 Carver 356 Aft Cabin Motor Yacht

Hello!

We have owned and sailed on a 46' sailboat for a number of years, but are getting a little older, as we all are (sigh), and are looking at the subject boat. I have looked at a number of sites talking about this model and it seems like it is a good boat for day/overnight sailing, but not for long distance sailing or handling weather in the C'Bay.

I have read the forum comments about checking for things, and it has been helpful! Thanks....but any other thoughts on what to look for before deciding to spend some money on a survey?

Thanks!

Ken

View the latest post Run a New Transducer cable on a 396 Carver

Does anyone have experience running a wire from the bridge dashboard to the bilge on a Carver 396 to install a new transducer? There must be somewhere that I could run a snake down from top to bottom.
Thanks

View the latest post Yes I am a new owner of a Carver 370 Voyager that has not seen much use

Hello to fellow Carver owners.

Just spent night number two on this vessel. Spent the day, off loading stuff the previous owner thought would be useful for us. But like any newly acquired boat there are some minor details that need to be addressed. So, this Carver Voyager 370 has four portlights that require screens. We plan to spend most of the summer in the North Channel cruising grounds and screens are a definite need, not a want. They portlights are chrome ringed and measure 17" X 7 5/8" OS. Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain those screens?

Thanking everyone in advance and looking forward to spending hook time reading through the manuals and the endless information available from this site.

Thanks again
RobnCarey
