On my 1994 Carver 370 aft cabin, the main salon stairs as well as stairs down to galley and back to aft cabin were all carpeted. The main staircase had a cheesy plastic runner "protecting" the carpet. After a couple of near catastrophic slips, the carpet has got to go. I'm in the home stretch of the improved tread replacement. I took about an inch off the edge of the plywood stair treads and glued / screwed 1" wide bull nose teak edging. I installed it so it was ~5mm proud of the old tread. I then ordered a sheet of Seadeck material to cut and fit into the recess. Got it all done except the very top main salon tread ( have to make a complicated template for that one). Also had to use some body filler to level off an area around transition between the fiberglass and the top stair tread. So far I'm liking it much better, there is now visual contrast between the tread and the edge of the tread, much easier to see the edges of the tread. Old blue carpet was all on color an made it difficult to navigate in dim light.
