View the latest post What is inside the stringers?

1994 Carver 390 CPMY. I am mounting a Fireboy automatic fire extinguisher. It must be mounted upright, not horizontal. Anyway the only place I can mount it is against the port stringer in front of the port engine. I drilled a hole in the top of the stringer and used a scope to check what was inside and it was clean and clear. SO…….I drilled a hole about 4” from the bottom, and after I went through the fiberglass, (1/2” or so thick) The drill stopped and I saw metal/steel shavings and I stopped. Is there a steel plate inside the stringers? I also thought about making a bracket of 1/4” steel with a 90 degree bend at the top, then run it down to the where the hull mergers the stringer. then mount the backer onto the bracket..

Any opinions or does anyone know what is inside the stringers?

best always……

Tony

View the latest post carver 27 santego at low speed

hi, the title really says it all, how does a carver 27 santego handle at low speeds? (in case there are hull variations for this model, its advertised as a full displacement hull by the broker)
we intend on using it on the thames, where the speed limit is 8 kts
we just need to know if its going to drift across the top of the river like the fjord 24 we had previously, or whether it will hold a straight line
any help would be greatly appreciated

View the latest post Interior light dimmer

Hello Everyone,

New to the forum and Carver...

I have been given the project of upgrading almost everything on a 2007 56 Voyager. So far I have upgraded all the navigation (Garmin), Radar, auto pilot, TVs (5), sound bars, speakers, woofers and AV sound processor, Main radio and remote radio, Starlink, NEMA2000 network and Garmin marine network, onboard WIFI and cordless land line phones.

That being said, now comes the hard part that I cannot find any info on. Finding the OEM dimmer :banghead:

I need to change all the OEM interior lights and I am now looking at the OEM dimmer with the up and down buttons. It has three gray cables. I have new dimmers that replace the existing ones, but I cannot find where the OEM dimmer module is.

Can anyone help guide me to where I should be looking for it?

View the latest post Anyone running Maretron N2KView on a Raspberry Pi?

Maretron web site calls out PCs, iPads, and Tablets - but does not mention Raspberry Pi. I have been on the support forums and knowledge base with no success.

So, anyone with any first hand knowledge? Anyone running the Maretron N2KView software on a Raspberry Pi?

View the latest post Prop Shaft getting hot

On my 405 been doing some spring maintenance including shaft alignment, oil and all the other checks etc.I've not had any issues with my shaft logs getting hot but this weekend I've found my stbd is getting up to 100f using my infared thermometer aimed at the top of the nut the hottest part i meaured. . I was on a real slow short cruise we, shut it down and came back on 1 engine. I've never had the traditional drip as my Trojan F32 had on its packing. so ive kept a pretty close eye on this. My Port is still nice and cool with really no drips (never had)when running. Again I've never had a problem so I have no clue what packing that they currently have. I have tried adjusting the nuts and did back it off but temp was still warm so I've decided it's time to repack it. I know the shaft size is 1.5 and the packing should be 1/4. What I am interested in is recommended packing material to install in it, I will remove all of what's in there . What are your guys thoughts about this? And the packing type to use?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 3207 Hynautic steering gone bad

Over the years, the steering on our 1984 3207 has been getting harder and harder to turn the wheel. I'm pretty good at mechanical stuff - I replaced both engines with GT40 marine engines several years ago - but I'm not sure where to start with the steering issue. I added air to the reservoir last year, which helped a little, but now it's worse than before. I've done a search on this site, but haven't yet found a thread that helps me diagnose and repair the steering. Our boat has an upper helm as well as one in the salon. Can someone point me towards a solution for the hard steering?
