View the latest post Attachment(s) Fireboy mounted

After a couple week, multiple cuts and twisted body. The Fire Boy has been mounted. There was truly no space to put this larger than HALON system. I finally did make some “l” brackets with 1 x 2 tubing. The length went right to the hull. I put them mounted with 4 holes drilled into the THICK fiberglass stringer and used 1/4” heavy duty molly bolts. By making the length to the bottom, it acts as a wedge and the 37lbs of the fireboy on it, keeps it down to the hull and truly does NOT budge :usa: . Since the spra is 180 degrees, I mounted it a tad off so it waill get the entire engine room. My old HALON is still in place, and it was a 350 cu ft. That size was not made, so this is a 375. Now, per USCG Regs, I am running the wires up to the bridge to mount the monitor. WHAT A JOURNEY!

View the latest post Vacuflush model 858 bowl leak

I have 2 Vacuflush toilets in m 1998 Carver 355. I rebuilt the aft head latest year. New ball valve, bowl seals were done then. Bowl has leaked since.. Eeewww! So, today I replaced the water valve which has been dripping. I moved the bowl, so I think the clamp was loose. I pulled the bowl and found white crusty stuff n both rubber and Teflon gasket. Took them outside and scrubbed them clean. I lined up the notch and installed the thin one with smaller circle in the middle first with this side up, then the thick rubber seal with smaller hole on top, lining the notch. I put the plastic collar back on, centered the bowl, then cinched down the clamp. The bowl doesn’t move. The water is holding vacuum and pump shuts off. When I push the pedal down, some water seeps out at the bottom of the pedestal.

The model toilet I have is an 858. It’s 1998 vintage. I purchased the set without drain holes. I noticed the after year 2000 uses no drain holes. Is this my issue? Do I need drain holes?

View the latest post Questioning factory wiring of AC in 1983 3607

My boat manual has my AC configured with Aft AC on MAIN 1, Pump, Salon and Fwd AC on Main 2

But the reality is below, not matching the manual

Main 1 has
receptacles
receptacles
range
hot water

Main 2 has
AC pump
Salon AC (16,000 BTU)
Aft AC (6,000 BTU)
Fwd AC (6,000 BTU)

If i have all 3 AC units on, the main pops at the post (new 30a breaker) I did put a soft start on the Main Salon AC to reduce inrush current.

Why did the factory change and not put the aft AC on Main 1 as manual states?
why all 3 on one 30 amp main

Thanks in advance

View the latest post Dual Station 454XL Igintion/Start Issue

'96 370 Voyager with dual station 454XL's..... Boat was new to us in 2020, ignition/engines/alarms worked/ran as expected....

Beginning late last season and now trying to resolve;..... Stbd engine starter engages/activates whenever key is turned to the "On" position (disengages once engine starts). Port engine/starter operates correctly.

Trouble shooting:
A. Swapped lower helm Port ignition switch with Stbd ignition switch, No Change
B. Swapped upper helm Stbd ignition switch with lower helm ignition switch, No Change
C. Swapped Stbd Starter Slave Solenoid with Port Slave Solenoid, No Change.
D. Replaced Stbd Oil Pressure Switch, No Change.

The only thing left I can think of, is a stuck Starter Solenoid on the Stbd engine, which is a ROYAL PIA to get to.... Anyone have any other ideas?

Around the same time as the starter issue appeared (Memory not so clear :-( ), the lower helm Oil Pressure/Temp alarm quit working.,... Any chance the two are related?

I also, can't seem to locate the lower helm Alarm/Buzzer. I have the overhead panel in the head and the access panel behind the mirror in the head removed, but don't see anything that resembles an alarm. Where else might it be?

In addition to the above, and also confusing.... There are "Dead End" purple wires (no cap or but end, just a cut wire) coming from each of the lower helm ignition switches. If I connect/jump them, the Stbd starter engagement/activation is normal and Stbd engine will start and starter will disengage once running, but the Oil Pressure/Temp Alarm on the fly bridge, and I assume the "Non Functioning" lower helm alarm, runs constant and does not stop.

Suggestions for further trouble shooting?

View the latest post 2005 41 CMY with Volvo 8.1Gi

Good day Carver Yacht people!

I'm looking at a 2005 41 CMY with the 375HP 8.1Gi engines and after what I consider to be a thorough search (2 Hours) I can't find anybody with opinions on if the 8.1's are a good choice for this boat. Seems to me like they may be a little anemic for a 41ft boat @ ~24K lbs. I could be wrong, it's happened before.
OTOH 750HP sounds like a a fair cop. Is there another advantage to the Diesels other than low end torque and reduced Fuel Burn? Should I buy this boat and just enjoy it, or should I maybe save up some more money and get the 44 CMY with the Volvo diesels? The price point is very significant, like 100K. The 41 is in awesome shape with what appears to be some choice upgrades, and lot's of new stuff. I hate to miss out on a great boat just because of a misinformed apprehension about the Gas motors. Also, I'm Gas engine mechanically inclined, and the Diesels would be a learning experience, but not one I'm unwilling to undertake. I learn fast and like mechanics.
As for use, mostly it would be Lake/River use with the notion that I might want to do the Tenn/Tom to the Gulf and go to the Keys. I think that would be the ultimate Retirement Gift to myself, and sounds like an exciting adventure. This would be my 4th boat, so I'm no newbie, but would be my first "Big" boat, and I am certainly not arrogant enough to think I know everything.
I'm really torn here, any help?

Thanks,
Jester.

View the latest post Simple Solar Solution is it feasible?

I have a 430 CPMY with lots of room in the lazerette for batteries.
I do not currently have an inverter system but want to install a solar system, primarily for dual 12V / 110 V fridge.
My simple solution is as follows and want to know opinions on feasibility.
The installation will be with proper wiring / connectors / fuses / controllers etc.

1) Install 2 600 watt panels on the hard top and run cables to the lazerette.
2) Install 1 400 A/H lithium battery
3) Install 1 4000 watt pure sine wave inverter.

I then want to install a 30 amp power inlet into the side panel of the cockpit and connect that to the inverter.
Then simply run a shortened shore power cord from that inlet into the main shore power inlet that is used for the shore power connection.

This should then supply 110 V to my main panel when switched to shore power.
I should then be able to run any 110 V circuits from my DC panel.
This would include my battery charger for the main start batteries if required.

Does this sound feasible. primarily used for the fridge / coffee machine / TV / lights.
I would still run my genni for any heavy loads such as stove top / hot water when required.
Feedback would be much appreciated.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Water hiding under the aft cabin floor 1983 3607

I have identified a leak coming from my port exhaust. The leak is a small stream of lake water continously flowing about 1/8" wide. It was identified last season and i requested repairs that are happening now. The question is this. That water never made it to my bilge pump. This model has no aft pump, nearest is engine room and it's dry. At cabin smells like someone died. I pulled all the carpet, plywood floor is dry. Where might this water be hiding. How do i drain it, best way to deal with the odor.

Thanks so much in advance
